Rolling Thunder Crosses Washington D.C.’s Memorial Bridge in Tribute
For the twenty-third year in a row, Rolling Thunder held their annual motorcycle rally in Washington, DC during the Memorial Day weekend. About 400,000 veterans roared across Washington, DC on their motorcycles as a tribute to American war heroes.
On Sunday, May 30, 2010, thousands of motorcycles departed from the Pentagon’s parking lot and proceeded in a parade formation to cross the Potomac River on the Memorial Bridge.
The parade of veterans mounted on every kind of motorcycle imaginable roared by the crowds of supporters and spectators for almost three solid hours. For those present it was quite a thrill to feel the earth shake under their feet and to hear the thunderous roar of thousands of motorcycles drive by in tribute.
Rolling Thunder was incorporated as a class 501 C(4) non-profit organization and today has more than 7,500 members throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. The group is actively involved year-round in promoting legislation to increase veteran benefits and resolve the POW/MIA issue from all wars. They also provide financial support, food, clothing and other essentials to veterans, veterans’ families, veterans’ groups and women’s' crisis centers.
